The best place for your child to practice is at an acoustic piano
in a room free of distractions. |
Noise:
Your child should practice in an area free of distracting noises such as TV, radio, video games, and loud conversations. It is a great advantage if your child can practice piano within your earshot. This will help keep him or her on task and it will give you the opportunity to offer praise and encouragement. See the section on How to Practice for tips on guiding your child’s piano practice. |
Most children will need to sit on something to raise their bodies up higher on the bench. The elbow should make a 90-degree angle. It is important to have the fingers fall down onto the keys instead of reaching up from below.
Sitting higher will require a stool to rest the feet and anchor the body. It is hard to make powerful movements with the upper body when your feet are dangling in space! An upturned plastic bin works well as a footrest - choose the size that works for you. |
